Man stabbed at Khareband in broad daylight

Peace was shattered in the Khareband locality of the commercial capital on Sunday noon after a stabbing incident brought back memories of gang fights.
One Shiva Latur (35) suffered multiple stab injuries after he was stabbed on his abdomen, neck, cheek allegedly by one Guruppa Zamune, who is believed to working as a driver in a government department.
Margao Police Sub Inspector Paresh Naik said the incident occurred around noon when the accused armed with a knife stopped Shiva on his motorcycle and repeatedly stabbed him.
When asked to outline the motive behind the assault, Paresh said the incident reportedly arose over some previous enmity between the victim Shiva and Zamune. In a fit of rage, the accused allegedly stabbed the victim, he added.
Paresh said that Shiva was an accused in the Simon murder case, but was later acquitted by the court.
The victim is battling for life at the Goa Medical College and hospital, Bambolim as he is learnt to have sustained serious injuries. A profusely bleeding Shiva was first rushed to the Hospicio Hospital, but doctors at the government-run hospital immediately shifted him to the GMC as his condition was described as critical.
The police has deployed a police control van to maintain vigil in Khareband as a precautionary measure to prevent an group fights in the locality.
The accused has been arrested by the Margao police and is cooling his heels in the lock-up. A local court has remanded the accused to eight days police remand. The police are yet to recover the knife used in the offence.
