MARGAO: Aquem residents have, in a letter, requested the Margao Municipal Council to initiate land acquisition proceedings to acquire Costa Ground for building a sports complex and centre for cultural, social and political events.
In their letter, the residents have informed the municipality that there exists an open ground, known as ‘Costa Ground’ or ‘Fabrique Ground’ being used for sports activities for the last more than 100 years, and continues to be so used till today, freely, openly and peacefully, by the residents of Aquem and adjoining areas.
The residents claim that except for the Costa Ground, there is no other ground available to the people of Margao. “Till date, no land in Margao has been acquired to develop a playground or sports ground,” the residents wrote as.
