St Joseph emerge winners

St Joseph High School, Pernem downed New English High School Higher Secondary School, Mandrem with a narrow 2-1 win to emerge winners in inter-school Under-17 Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament for Pernem Taluka at Pernem on Monday. The winners scored both goals in the first half.
Striker Zico opened the lead for Pernem in the 10th minute firing a scorching 20-yarder off a floater from right winger Ramdas.
Anthony Fernandes consolidated the lead in the 22nd minute.
Five minutes from the final whistle forward Cajetan Fernandes reduced the margin with a strong header off a floater from Vasant Naik.
