The crematorium is shared by Hindu, Muslim, and Catholic communities, but the gate always remains open. The locals have demanded the panchayat frame rules for using the crematorium

Stating that the CCTV camera at crematorium has been found damaged, Sarpanch Abhijit Gaude said that after receiving a police inquiry report, action will be taken against those involved in burying an unknown body without the panchayat’s permission.

Meanwhile, the police have identified the person who was buried at the kabrastan as 76-year-old Julekhabi Pirjade from Dharbandora. The police said the woman died at the Dharbandora Primary Health Centre (PHC) while undergoing treatment with the doctor certifying her death as natural. The police said that before the burial, the family had informed a panch member.

It is pertinent to note that the crematorium land was acquired 17 years ago but has been controversial due to unmarked community plots, lack of a compound wall, encroachment by migrants, and improper record-keeping.

It may be recalled that on November 1, the locals had complained to the sarpanch about an unknown body being buried at the kabrastan.

The following day, the sarpanch had filed a complaint with Ponda Police wherein, he mentioned that an unknown body had been buried in the Kabrastan without proper identification and legal procedures. The Sarpanch had asked the police to probe the person’s identity.
