‘Liquor licences renewal may start today’

PANJIM: Excise Department has modified the action plan to deal with liquor outlets on highways as per the government decision and the renewal of liquor licences is expected to commence from Friday.

PANJIM: Excise Department has modified the action plan to deal with liquor outlets on highways as per the government decision and the renewal of liquor licences is expected to commence from Friday.
Speaking to Herald, Excise Commissioner, Menino D’Souza said, “The modified plan will be conveyed to the panel working under Chief Secretary to implement the Supreme Court order. Renewal of liquor licences may start from tomorrow (Friday).”
Meanwhile, a representation was made to the Excise Commissioner by the affected liquor traders of Bicholim town.
President of Goa Liquor Traders Association who led the delegation informed that the taluka level committee which was setup to survey the liquor business establishments had made a mistake in their survey.
He said, “Bicholim bypass is a state highway and internal market road has been denotified already. He accepted the mistake made by the taluka level team and assured to make the correction immediately. This would directly provide relief to at least 20 business establishments.” The total number of liquor licenses in Bicholim town is about 50, he added.
