VASCO: Traffic congestion is an annual feature along the Agassaim-Cortalim stretch especially during the year-end. And Saturday was nothing new as the influx of tourists caused traffic congestion and to add to that two minor accidents were reported on the Zuari Bridge in the afternoon further leading to the slow traffic movement on the route which continued till evening.
It is pertinent to note that the influx of tourists during the year-end festivities causes traffic congestion at Agassaim-Cortalim stretch each year.
Vasco Traffic Police said two minor accidents on the Zuari Bridge further led to the slow traffic movement.
On Saturday, Agassaim-Cortalim stretch was congested as vehicles were seen lined up on both sides of the bridge due to the increased movement of tourists in Goa after the lockdown especially considering the year-end festivities.
Speaking to the Herald, Vasco Traffic PI Sudesh Narvekar said, “The traffic congestion along the Zuari Bridge stretch started at around 12.30 pm and continued till 5.30 pm. In between at around 2.40 pm there was a minor accident involving cars and another at around 3.30 pm on the bridge which led to the oncoming traffic to get lined up. We are managing the situation but there is slow movement of traffic.”
A Cortalim resident said even during late evening there was very slow movement of traffic on both sides of the bridge and the residents of the area have to suffer due to the dust pollution when several vehicles pass through the untarred roads.
