Margao: The South Goa Planning and Development Authority officials led by Member Secretary Ashok Kumar conducted an inspection in the SGPDA wholesale market. Ashok Kumar informed the authorities had directed that him to check what type of vehicles enter the market.
“Our main concern is parking of the vehicle. We won’t allow them to sell stale fish in the market.”, said Ashok Kumar. When asked what expertise he has to check the type of vehicles, Ashok Kumar had no definite answer.
Shaik Zahid, a wholesale fish market agent, informed the association had given a letter to SGPDA that they are willing to follow all the guidelines of the FDA but the trade license is stuck because of trade license from SGPDA. “Nobody knows how we conduct our business so SGPDA wanted to check how we carry out the business. We gave an assurance that we will do our business in insulated vehicles”.
Interestingly, the officials made no mention of the pollution in the area even though just last month, the Pollution Control Board had released a report showing high levels of contamination in the area.
Besides this, the question that is yet to be answered is whether FDA can issue a single license for all the wholesale fish traders or whether each trader will have to take a separate FDA license. Also, will SGPDA issue a single NOC for all the wholesale fish traders or whether each trader will have to individually apply for the NOC.
