PANJIM: The Next Gen League, organised by The King’s Sports Academy, featuring U-6, U-10 Futsal and U-12 football categories successfully completed its first round of matches to advance into the Diamond and Sapphire stages, played at The King’s School ground, Sao Jose de Areal, recently.
The top two teams from each group progress to the Diamond League, while the next two teams compete in the Sapphire League.
In the U-6 Diamond 3-a-side Futsal (round 4), Our Lady of Carmel High School, Curtorim, secured a hard-fought victory against Our Lady of Succour High School, Verna. Both Evelyn Dias (Verna) and Zylen Castanha (Curtorim) were named players-of-the-match for their exceptional contributions.
In the U-12 Diamond 7-a-side football (round 1) featured four highly competitive matches. In the first clash, St Anthony’s High School, Cuncolim, emerged victorious over Mount Mary High School, Chinchinim, with Yuvraj Gaonkar (Cuncolim) shining as the player-of-the-match.
In another match, Regina Martyrum High School, Assolna, triumphed over The King’s School (Blue), São José de Areal, thanks to a standout performance by Flavion Cardozo, who was named player-of-the-match.
A closely contested game saw St Xavier’s High School, Velim, and Our Lady of Carmel High School, Curtorim, both deliver strong performances, with Jones Fernandes (Curtorim) earning the player-of-the-match for his decisive contributions.
The final match of the day witnessed Marina English High School, Verna, outplaying Infant Jesus High School, Colva. Vailan Abranches (Verna) displayed impressive skill, securing player-of-the-match honours for his vital role in the team’s success.
