MARGAO: Sporting Clube de Goa downed Mumbai FC 3-2 in the I-League match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, on Sunday.
Sushil Singh (17′ and 57′) scored a couple of goals for the visitors while Nicholas Fernandes (24′) and two penalties from skipper Odafa Okolie (74′ and 86′) helped the Goan outfit climb to the fourth position with 11 points in their kitty.
It was the visitors who opened the scoring as Sushil Singh toe-poked the ball from a corner-kick in the 17th minute.
Sporting Clube responded soon after when Odafa received the ball from a throw-in and wriggled past at least four defenders. He picked out Nicholas Fernandes on the left who had the time and space to score the equalizer in the 24th minute.
The second half saw Mumbai FC go ahead when Arata Izumi initiated a counter-attack and sent Sushil through who dinked the ball over an onrushing Arindam Bhattacharya to make it 2-1 in the 57th minute.
In the 74th minute, Sporting Clube won a penalty when Martins was brought down and Odafa sent Pawan Kumar the wrong way to restore parity.
Sporting Clube earned another penalty in the 86th minute and Odafa once again dispatched it coolly to make it 3-2.
