PANJIM: Will it be Sunburn, Supersonic or the Goan Beach Grind that will snatch the permission for the mega Electronic Dance Music (EDM) Festival this December in North Goa as the State level Permissions Committee meets Wednesday November 13, to take the final call?
This is the third meeting of the permissions committee under the single window system for approving mega tourism related events and the Tourism Department expects it to be the last where it would decide on whom to grant permission for the EDM fest later this year.
With Nuvem MLA Francisco Mickky Pacheco also entering the fray for permission to host his Goan Beach Grind (EDM) fest at Baga, the contest has become even more interesting.
The sub-committee appointed to inspect possible venues for hosting EDM fests in North Goa inspected Baga and will present its report at today’s meeting.
The committee has already rejected Anjuna, the second option presented by organisers of Sunburn 2013.
There would also be more clarity on land ownership and lease deeds signed between the organisers of Sunburn and Supersonic for the venue at Candolim.
Officials are totally tight lipped on the whole issue stating that the permissions committee will have the mammoth task of deciding on how many EDMs could be held and should be permitted in North Goa this December.
While Pacheco seeks permission for the Goan Beach Grind at Baga, Sunburn and Supersonic are seeking permission for hosting their events at Candolim all in the last week of December.
Indications are that only one event will be permitted considering issues of safety, security, traffic congestion and pressure on the law enforcing agency to deal with them all.
“We have entrusted the task of deciding on the EDMs to the permissions committee and let us see what decision they arrive at tomorrow,” said a senior official in the tourism department.
