Succor local killed in mishap on Mandovi bridge

PANJIM: A 38-year-old Succor scooterist died in a collision with a four-wheeler on the old Mandovi Bridge early Sunday morning. Panjim police arrested the reckless driver identified as Vikas Narang (25) from Haryana for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Police said Shivappan Chawan was on his way to Panjim from Porvorim to purchase fish from the local market when an oncoming car GA-03-B-7332 driven by Narang crashed into his bike GA-03-P-3428 at around 5:15 am. The tourist was accompanied by his friend Kapil Sharma, from Taleigao in the car.
Police said that the car being at high speed overturned thrice after the crash. Sharma suffered injuries and admitted to Goa medical college for treatment. “Narang had rented out the car from a Calangute-based car rental during his stay period here. He was enroute to Calangute from Panjim to return the car when he banged into the biker resulting in his instant death,” said the police.
The driver has been booked under IPC sections 304-A for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, 337 for causing hurt by endangering life or personal safety.
