MARGAO: A PWD contractor on Monday commenced
repair works of the footpaths at Ring Road in Margao after being taken to task by the local residents.

It is pertinent to note that a week ago, the Shadow Council of Margao (SCM) had exposed the shoddy works executed during the construction of the footpaths along the Ring Road at Margao, which was a part of the much hyped beautification programme of Margao MLA Digamber Kamat.
Savio Coutinho, Convenor of SCM said that the Council had once again succeeded in pulling up the authorities from wasting taxpayers’ money by executing shoddy civic works.
Coutinho said that the immediate response to their exposè could surely be laying of another foundation stone for the beautification of the Ring Road from Power House junction to Apollo Victor Hospital, fearing media scrutiny regarding the substandard works.
With the beautification work of the Ring Road being undertaken at the cost of the public exchequer, the SCM has called upon the people to scrutinize all the works tendered by the various departments.
“Despite the claims by the government of having spent crores of rupees on the development of Margao, the commercial town continues to be in shambles. The simple reason for this is the shoddy and substandard works, which don’t last long,” Coutinho charged.
“The SCM has been consistently highlighting how public funds are being squandered and misused through dubious schemes, and with the blessings of the public representatives and shall continue to bring out these dubious schemes to the knowledge of the public,” he further added.
