Faleiro was speaking at the first meeting of the party at Candolim in Calangute constituency since taking over the party reigns.
“When the BJP government took over the reins in Goa, the people had high hopes and expectations, but during the two-and-half years rule what we have witnessed, there are only “U’ turns and the economy is in shambles,” said Faleiro.
“The financial position of the State has totally collapsed. Almost 1 lakh mining dependent people are starving today due to faulty policy of the government. The taxation ratio in Goa is highest as compared to other states. Functioning of the co-operative banks has been affected due to improper planning of the government,” he said.
“The BJP government which promised to bring back the black money and everyone dreamt of something out of the return, has yet again done a ‘U’ turn. The law and order has totally collapsed as can be seen from robberies, attacks, etc, on elected representatives,” said Faleiro.
Cumbharjua MLA Pandurang Madkaiker highlighted the sorry state of affairs under the present BJP rule in Goa.
“Rent-a-bike scheme idea was mooted by Agnelo Fernandes during my tenure as transport minister and many youth are making a living on it. The BJP had formulated schemes to win votes without making budgetary provision and today there is uncertainty of its continuity as there are huge loans,” said Madkaikar.
“The BJP government, which came to power on issues like casino, RP-2021, mining, have mismanaged the State, least caring about the welfare of common people,” he added.
Agnelo Fernandes said in the name of development, trees are cut in Arpora to widen the roads for the builders and hoteliers. “A well is required to be registered and water tax is being levied under the BJP government. The move to include Candolim and Calangute in NGPDA is also meant to benefit builders lobby and not to suit the interest of locals.”
The meeting was largely attended by Congress workers and others.
