PANJIM: Cuncolim Education Society’s (CES) College won the Inter-Collegiate Tennikoit Championship for women organized by Goa University, at Silver Jubilee hall, University Campus, Taleigao Plateau, recently. They defeated Shree Mallikarjun College, Canacona 2-1 in the final.
In the first singles, Selina Souza of CES defeated Pratiksha Gaonkar of Shree Mallikarjun 21-9 and 21-16 while in the second singles, Noorjanahan Shaikh of CES lost to Sushila Oli of Shree Mallikarjun 12-21 and 0-21 (default).
In the deciding doubles, Selina and Noorjahan defeated Sushila and Pratiksha 22-21, 21-22 and 21-18 to clinch the title for CES.
Earlier, in the semi-final, CES edged past Rosary College, Navelim 2-1 and Shree Mallikarjun defeated GVM’s College, Ponda 2-0.
In all, 19 teams participated in the two-day championship.
The team of CES included Prashila Deikar, Selina Souza, Noorjahan Shaikh, Mlavrisa Carvalho and Savita Velip while the team of Mallikarjun College, Canacona was made up of Sushila Oli, Sarvadnya Pai, Pratiksha Gaonkar, Daya Velip and Sanjyoti Bhagat.
