PONDA: The Anti-Ragging Committee of the Goa College of Engineering (GES) has decided to initiate action against a student in connection with ragging reported on a KTC bus.
The decision was taken when the committee met on Wednesday following allegations that junior students were subjected to ragging in a bus.
“The student has been identified and accordingly, action will be taken as per the provisions laid under the Anti-Ragging Act. Our aim is to stop ragging in the State,” GEC Principal and the chairman of the GEC’s Anti ragging committee Dr Rajesh Lohani told Herald.
According to sources, the student identified is the main conspirator, but he has not disclosed names of other senior students who were also allegedly involved in the ragging incident.
It may be recalled that Ponda Police had recently had submitted a report to the GEC in connection with a ragging incident that was reported on a KTC bus transporting students from college to Vasco and vice-versa.
The ragging incident came to light after Ponda police based on information deployed policemen in civil cloths on the KTC bus. According to Ponda police, some senior students were involved in ragging junior students while the KTC bus was proceeding to Vasco.

PANJIM: The Goa State Human Rights Commission (GSHRC) has taken suo moto cognizance of the ragging incident by senior students of Goa Engineering College (GEC) at Farmagudi, Ponda and directed the Principal to appear before it on August 20.
The Ponda police, acting on information that ragging incidents were reportedly taking place in the KTC bus transporting students between the GEC campus and Vasco, had posted policemen in plainclothes on the KTC bus.
The policemen were witness to the incident and a report was sent to the college.
