Goa is the smallest State in India, yet the administration seems to be a Herculean Task, for the authorities. Almost, all the roads in Goa ranging from the highways to small village roads are in pitch darkness.
On one hand, the multi-coloured, shining lights on the Atal Setu adorn the heart of Panjim city, while most of the other roads are engulfed in darkness due to lack of street lights. The street light fixtures are either missing or non-functional.

The situation is aggravated due to dug up roads because of perennial construction activity going on the roads of the State.
The monsoon has made matters woefully worse as the roads have turned into virtual death traps. An example of the same is the notorious Chimbel-Chinchwada junction on the Old Goa-Panjim Highway.
The entire stretch of the road is in total darkness even though numerous fatal accidents have been reported from there in the last few months. The greatest threat is for the lives of scooterists and pedestrians.
While the government is very keen on cutting down forests and launching new projects, it would make more sense if the government first provide basic street lights on the existing roads of Goa and make them safe.
