SANGUEM: A huge crack has developed in the middle of the road at Velipwaddo ward of Uguem village panchayat thereby rendering the road unsafe for vehicular traffic that uses that section of the road.
The road via Velipwaddo from Dando is widely used by the truckers proceeding to the Sanguem Industrial Estate located at Xelpem and also by visitors to the Selaulim Dam.
On account of the huge crack in the middle of the road villagers fear the number of accidents will increase in the area if authorities fail in getting the portion of the road repaired at the earliest.
The situation has turned perilous given the fact that the crack has developed at a sharp turn thereby making the use of the road all the more dangerous.
Due to the crack in the middle of the road motorists particularly two-wheeler riders in a bid to avoid the crack are seen rising on the wrong side of the road thereby making them vulnerable and increasing the chances of being hit by the vehicles coming in opposite direction.
Incidentally, with the road being narrow the chances of accidents taking place also have multiplied and villagers are keen on the repairs as soon as possible.
Villagers claim that the condition of the road has deteriorated on account of the recent work of laying new water pipeline by the PWD from Xelpem to Orcotto. With the road being used by heavy trailers and trucks transporting material to the various industries housed at Sanguem Industrial Estate, the villagers have urged for immediate repair of the damaged portion of the road.
