PANJIM: Zagrut Goenkarancho Ekvott (ZGE) has pledged support to two more candidates contesting the March 3 Goa Assembly elections among whom are former Congressman Govind Gaude who has already announced his candidature for Priol constituency as an independent.

The other is Adv John Monteiro who has been chosen by the Cuncolim constituency citizens’ committee.

Addressing the media Adv Yatish Naik said that the ZGE would shortly be releasing its “vision document” which would include a five year plan for Goa.

“The first issue that will be addressed by the vision document is that of the Regional Plan. None of the parties have said that they would denotify the regional plan, all of them are saying that they will make changes based on the people’s wishes. Secondly we will amend the Goa Panchayati Raj act to give more powers to gram sabhas. We will begin ‘call centres’ under the RTI act so that people can get information immediately and reduce the time for getting the replies to 15 days to improve transparency. We will also spell out in detail our tourism policy, sports and youth affairs policy, land acquisition policy and education policy,” Yatish Naik of ZGE said adding that the passing of the Goa Lokayukta Bill and other issues like contract labour in government jobs shall be done away with.

ZGE also condemned IT department for its raid on Fr Romano Gonsalves the parish priest of Cuncolim saying it was a big mistake.

They also spoke against the giving of tickets to just a few families in Goa. “We strongly condemn this tendency that is growing in Goa. This is reducing Goan politics to a joke. It gives the impression that Goa is a stupid place,” Naik opined.

ZGE has till date pledged its support to 11 candidates and has pledged to give support to give its final list within two days.
