PANJIM: Portais Sporting Club edged past Fr Agnel YC, Pilar 2-1 in GFA’s under-14 Ilhas Zone League match at Fr Agnel ground, Pilar, Thursday.
Portais Sporting dominated the match and could have come out victorious by atleast 5-1 score had their forwards not wasting some open goal scoring chances.
At half time, the score was 1-0.
Aaron D’Costa opened the account for Portais when he converted a cross taken by Sohel Bepari in the 15th minute of the first half.
Rankit Choudhary scored the second goal for Portais in the 20th minute of second half when his powerful shot gave no chance to Pilar keeper.
At the fag end of the match, Fr Agnel Pilar reduced the margin through Vishant Naik.
In another match, USC Mardol defeated Ponda Footballers 2-1. In the Bardez Zone, Anjuna Gymkhana thrashed El Shaddai Social and Cultural Club 6-1.
Meanwhile, Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim, who are on nine points from five matches, will have to go all out against Portais Sporting Club to register a victory with a clear 4-0 margin in order to qualify for the play-off.
Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao have already qualified by garnering the maximum 18 points, second placed are CDJ Ribandar on 12 points and are three goals ahead than Don Bosco Oratory Oratory in goal difference.
With today’s victory Portais collected three points to remain on10 points ahead of Don Bosco Oratory.
