VASCO: Two persons were injured when a culvert connecting Dactollem and Fakirgalli in Vasco collapsed following bad weather on Sunday.
The culvert was used by the residents of Dactollem and Fakirgalli in Vasco as shortcut.
According to the residents, there are over 180 houses in Dactollem and Fakirgalli and the incident has left them cut off from the rest of Vasco.
“Most residents from Dactollem or Fakirgalli area were using this culvert as the same served as shortcut to Vasco, but with the culvert collapsing on Sunday, we have been literally cut off from rest of the town. Till date we lack a proper motorable road leading to Dactollem and with this incident we are forced to undergo hardships,” complained a Dactollem resident.
Another resident said, “The worst affected are the school students in our area. They all are now forced to walk long distance (another kilometre extra) to the main road to reach their respective schools in Vasco. We only demand that the Mormugao Municipal Council immediately take steps to provide us some relief”.
Councillor Fedrick Henriques said, “When I visited the site, several residents apprised me on the difficulties they were facing in reaching their respective work destinations or go shopping to market or for any other work as they are now forced to travel along the lengthy road access to get their work done.”
“We have asked the Water Resources Department to construct a new culvert and I have decided to construct a structure over the culvert so that people use the same to cross over until the concrete culvert work is completed,” Henriques said.
