PANJIM: The Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa along with other State level advocates associations on Saturday petitioned Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Chief Justice of Bombay High Court at Goa for a magisterial inquiry into the alleged assault on Advocate Gajanan Sawant by police personnel.
In their petition, the advocates submitted a joint resolution passed by them seeking a magisterial inquiry into the incident through District Magistrate or retired High Court judge. They have also sought that the case be transferred to the Crime Branch, which is already done.

Porvorim Police on Friday registered an FIR against six persons, including head constable Sandeep Parab and three unknown persons, for allegedly assaulting the advocate. The FIR that included attempt to murder charge was filed following a demand from advocates who had gathered at Porvorim Police
Station.
The lawyers have called for a “time bound speedy investigation and filing of the charge sheet” in the case. They have also urged government to immediately arrest and suspend all the four police personnel involved in the brutal attack.
“Necessary action be taken against Police Inspector of Porvorim Police Station for delay in lodging the FIR based on the complaint filed by Sawant,” they said.
The Associations said that the action, as sought, be initiated within 48 hours to avoid any escalation in the matter.
