Workshop for NCC cadets held
MAYEM: All Goa Retired Soldiers Association recently conducted a workshop for NCC students of Shri Shantadurga High School Bicholim at Shishuwatika Hall.
The workshop was guided by retired captains Dattaram Sawant, Krishna Shetkar, Mohan Khatao and Jagannath Shetkar. Headmaster Suresh Ghatwal, teachers Devanand Golam and Anil Bondre were present on the occasion.
Karavali Utsav from November 18
POINGUINIM: The annual festival of Uttar Kannada (Karwar) district known as ‘Karavali Utsav’ will be held from November 18 to 24. The inauguration will be at Dandeli. On November 19, it will be held at Sirsi, Kumta and Bhatkal, while on November 22, 23 and 24, it will be held at Karwar.
The festival was first held in 1992 and the event was stalled since and will be held after a gap of five years.
Karavali festival draws lakhs of people from Karwar, Goa and other places. Various products like wooden carvings, furniture, food preparations, toys, home appliances and other items are displayed by locals and local folk and art programme are held and also artistes from all over the country perform.
Goan bands also perform at the Mayur stage at Rabindranath Tagore beach at Karwar. Goan hoteliers also participate and display food items.
Sawal assures progress at Advalpal
MAYEM: Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal assured the villagers of Advalpal to undertake necessary developmental works in the village.
“Works like road widening, beautification and maintenance of old lake at Advalpal, hot mix carpeting of roads and other development issues will be undertaken,” assured Sawal during his visit to Advalpal.
Sawal was accompanied by Advapal Deputy Sarpanch Gajanan Palyekar, Panch Vishwanath Naik, engineer Atmaram Gawade and villagers.
Poster contest held at Canacona
CANACONA: Pradidhi Raikar of St Thereza of Jesus HS, Chaudi, bagged the first prize in the Peace poster drawing contest organised by Lions Club of Canacona.
Anisha Devidas (Shri Damodar Vidyalaya) and Adonia Barretto (St Thereza of Jesus) were awarded second and third prizes respectively in the competition organised for school students aged between 11 to 13 years.
Earlier, about 30 students participated in a workshop conducted by artist Kiran Raikar and later took part in the peace poster drawing contest.
As the day marked Anti-Terrorism Day, Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Mahadev Dessai reminded the students that peace begins at home and each child and parent should understand and strive to live peacefully.
Guardian Angel feast at Curchorem
CURCHOREM: The annual feast of Guardian Angel at Guardian Angel Church, Curchorem, will be celebrated on November 17.
‘Rakhnnea Bhoddveachea Asreakal, Amcho Bhavart Khollaum-ia’ will be the theme on the feast and Assistant Parish Priest of Santa Cruz Church Fr Santan D’Souza will be main celebrant.
On the feast day, masses will be at 6 am, 7.30 am and the High Mass will be at 9.30 am followed by procession with the statue of Guardian Angel.
In the evening, Konkani drama ‘Ekuch Pautt Zolmota’ by Comedian Ambe will be staged at Ravindra Bhavan Hall, Curchorem, in aid of Fr Agnelo Primary School, Curchorem.
Anti-plastic rally held at Sanquelim
MAYEM: Parents and students of Late Gurudas Gauns Memorial High School, Sanquelim, organised an anti-plastic drive rally at Sanquelim town.
The rally commenced from the school campus and wound its way through the market area and collected plastic waste. Students also raised slogans creating awareness not to make use of plastic products. The rally culminated at Radhakrishna Temple, Gokulwadi.
School Chairman Pratap P Gawas, ZP Laxmikant Parab, HDFC Bank Manager Somnath Naik, School Manager Geeta Gawas, School in-charge Abhijit Pednekar of English Medium School, Lineta D’Silva, Ankita Parab and PTA members and teaching and non-teaching staff of the school were present.
Farming urged in Sanquelim
MAYEM: Goa Pradesh BJP General Secretary Sadanand Shet Tanawade has called upon villagers from Sanquelim to undertake farming as major profession.
He was speaking at a programme organized to select a Kissan Morcha Committee for Sanquelim constituency. Sanquelim MLA Dr Pramod Sawant, BJP Mandal Chief Santosh Malik, General Secretary Pandurang Kuttikar, Goa State Kissan Morcha Vice President Rohidas Fondekar, Goa State Horticulture Director Vithoba Ghadi and Subhash Malik were present on the occasion.
On the occasion, Shamba Gaonkar was elected as president, while Srirang Sawal as the general secretary of Sanquelim constituency Kissan Morcha Committee.
Other office bearers and members were also elected.
