CURCHOREM: PWD Minister Ramkrishna Sudin Dhavalikar said that the Rs 680-crore water supply project planned at Selaulim would be ready by April. He also said that the proposed six-lane Zuari Bridge and four flyovers at Bambolim and Verna would cost around Rs 1,400 crore. The state-of-the-art new Zuari bridge itself is likely to cost around Rs 1,000 crore.
Dhavalikar was speaking to reporters after inspecting the new water treatment plant at Selaulim that was constructed under the Japan International Cooperative Agency (JICA) project during a press visit on Friday.
Later speaking to Herald, JICA Chief Anand Wachasunder said the entire water supply project is estimated at Rs 1,031 crore. “State funding will be about 15 percent towards the land cost, administrative costs and tax element. The augmentation of the Selaulim water supply project comprises a 100 MLD new treatment plant with pumping stations, sub-station and an intake well. The new treatment plant will be completed by April,” Wachasunder said.
According to JICA officials, the total capacity of the water treatment plants in Goa would become 599 MLD by 2015, from the present capacity of 464 MLD till recently.
Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Dessai, who was present, said that some villages in Sanguem constituency which are barely 10 kms from the Salaulim dam still do not get any water from the dam. “People from villages like Kurdi-Vaddem, Neturlim, Molkornem, Rivona and Cavrem-Pirla, who sacrificed their land for the dam and canals are not getting water. To add insult to injury, they have been left out from the JICA project,” Dessai said.
