Jason lashes out at our North Goa candidate for 2014, the respected Dattaram Desai, a veteran social activist, who suffered police atrocities during the Nylon 66 agitation, for some tenuous RSS links.
In the same bad breath he claims I said, at the press conference that I had friends in the RSS (which I certainly do) but I do not subscribe to their noxious idea of India and am at constant war with them.
He cleverly omitted that I also said that I have dear friends in the Congress but I would never dream of being a Congressman, even if they flew me to Delhi in an AgustaWestland chopper to register my primary membership.
Jason, a dear friend whose secular left liberal credentials are never in doubt must realize that AAP across the country despite herculean odds is trying to change the very grammar of Indian politics.
No corruption, no criminals, no communalism (Both Hindutva and radical Islamist). To do this, our volunteers in Goa have given up jobs, careers and family to articulate and chase that dream. If not encouraged the least we can do is not to demoralise them.
Deep down, every thinking citizen in Goa/India know AAP is the real McCoy.
The fear of the fence sitters is whether AAP can win the elections and that fuels the trepidation that AAP may split votes to favour the very cunning BJP
Suffice to say, the currency of AAP is the people and only the people of Goa. If we sense, AAP can take a majority in Goa we’ll go for the jugular, if we think we’ll win some piddly 4-5 seats, we’ll pass. Power for AAP is about transforming society. Not about doing the corrodinho in the Goa assembly.
Lastly, as a mark of respect to Dr. Dattaram Desai, I admit I addressed him as Dr. Desaiji. I however promise to make it up to Jason, the next time, and address him as Senhor Jason (not his Excellency because that’s British) and I promise him the RSS will not condemn him or me on the issue.
