MARGAO: Revolutionary Goans on Tuesday sowed ‘kuddit’ a local variety of paddy seed on 600 square metres of land offered to them by the owner Antonio Braganza under a programme titled “Ek Dis Xetaan”.
The youngsters first prepared the field by using a power tiller and the field was well aerated for the sowing. Around 25 volunteers slogged it out in the field with spades to prepare the partitions known as “mer” in Konkani.
Around 5 kgs of the seed was cast in the area as the traditional method was adopted for cultivating paddy and not transplantation. Manoj Parab of Revolutionary Goans said after harvesting the paddy, they will grow vegetables on the land.
