CURCHOREM: LPG consumers from Quepem who are serviced by East Quepem Consumers Cooperative Society Ltd, Curchorem, have complained of severe difficulties while booking domestic gas cylinders.
“Earlier, we used to book the cylinders at the dealer’s outlet at Quepem, but now dealers are asking us to book it from our mobile phones, which becomes a real hassle for us, particularly housewives and weaker section of the society,” Quepem Citizen Committee (QCC) Vice President Evangelisto D’Costa said.
Highlighting the difficulties, D’Costa further said even after booking on mobile phone, they are not sure when they will receive the cylinder. “On a particular day of supply, consumers have to stand in a long queue early in the morning. Suppliers come with limited number of cylinders and distribute it to the customers on first come first serve basis and those left don’t know when it will be their turn to get the cylinders,” he added.
Quepem Municipal Council (QMC) Vice President Camilo Simoes alleged that LPG customers from Quepem also face harassment from the dealer’s staff.
“We have highlighted our problems/difficulties before the company’s officials several times but they only give us assurances and till date, nothing has been done,” said Simoes.
Speaking to Herald, many customers from Quepem expressed anger and displeasure over the services provided by the LPG dealer and company. They also complained that there are no facilities in Quepem office of EQCCS regarding gas cylinders or new connections. For any work or problem, they have to go to Curchorem office to get their works done.
