The Cuncolim police have arrested Melson Coutinho, a resident of Cuncolim, on charges of rape, cheating, and criminal intimidation after a woman accused him of sexually assaulting her and defrauding her of nearly ₹90 lakh in cash and gold ornaments under the false promise of marriage.
According to police, the accused also allegedly threatened the victim with uploading her nude photographs on social media when she demanded the return of her valuables.

The victim lodged a complaint, following which Coutinho was taken into custody. Police confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to rape, cheating, and threats.
Investigations are underway, and further details are awaited.
