PONDA: Ponda police on Saturday arrested Yasmin Zalekar (28), a resident of Curti, on suspicion of being a member of a chain snatching gang. The mangalsutra of a Marcel woman was recovered from the accused.
On February 20, 2019, Shakuntala Fadte from Gaonkarwada in Marcel had complained that her mangalsutra was snatched by unknown motorcycle borne culprits.
During the course of investigation, police found that the accused woman was involved in mangalsutra snatching cases. Police also found mangalsutra in her possession.
Police suspect that the accused is a part of chain snatching gang.
Over the years, a number of chain snatching cases have been reported under the jurisdiction of the Ponda police and this is one of the few cases cracked by the police.
