PANJIM: Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, the Old Goa Police on Saturday arrested a resident of Merces for stalking a minor girl.
Old Goa PI Jivba Dalvi said that the mother in her complaint stated that the accused Dinesh Naik (39) of Merces approached her 14-year-old daughter while she was at a local shop to purchase some items. “He asked her to come to a remote place. However, the minor refused and on returning home, narrated the incident to her mother. Earlier too, he had stalked her,” Dalvi said providing details of the case.
The police registered a First Information Report under Section 354 D (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act soon after the complaint was lodged. “The accused has been arrested and is in police lockup. Investigation is underway based on which more details will be made available,” the officer said.
