PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Monday announced that the winter session of the Goa Legislative Assembly would be held in January, 2016.
Deputy Speaker Anant Shet is likely to be elected and sworn in as the new Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. His name has already been cleared by BJP. The post fell vacant following the resignation of Rajendra Arlekar who was sworn in as a minister in October.
Arlekar was allotted the Environment, Forest and Panchayat portfolios.
Since the government has a majority in the House, the opposition Congress may not file a nomination for the Speaker’s post.
A new Deputy Speaker will be also elected. There was speculation that BJP MLA Vishnu Wagh could be elected to that position, however, the MLA has turned down the offer made by the party.
The session will commence with the Governor’s address followed by a discussion on it. The crucial Bill on Regularization of Illegal Structures, is expected to be tabled during the session.
