MARGAO: Colva was rocked by a major burglary on Sunday after miscreants succeeded in targeting a row house owned by a businessman whey they lifted away diamond ornaments and cash all amounting to Rs 19.65 lakh.
The incident occurred on Sunday between 3 am and 8 am in a row house at Aqua Marina complex located just one minute walking distance from the Colva police station.
The culprits managed to lay their hands on two diamond bangles valued Rs 14 lakh, besides cash of Rs 5.65 lakh when the husband-wife duo were fast asleep.
Owner Maghav Gupta, a native of Punjab, told Herald that he had returned home at around 3 am, while the burglary came to light when his wife woke up at 8 am.
“The burglary must have taken place after I returned home at 3 am. The burglars entered the house through the kitchen door and lifted the locker from the cupboard located on the first floor and took it on the ground floor”, he said.
Upon a complaint lodged by the Maghav Gupta, who is into the business of import and export, the Colva police requisitioned the services of a police dog, which sniffed its way towards a construction site, before loosing the track.
The burglary has left the Colva police red faced as it comes close on the heels of the St John the Baptist Church Tabernacle theft case. The Colva police are investigating.
