PANJIM: In pursuit of promoting Goa as organic State under the Central government’s Paramparaghat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY), the State government has formed 40 village-level clusters, comprising 900 farmers from Salcete and Mormugao taluka.
Under the scheme, in three years the Centre intends to create 10,000 clusters covering five lakh acres under organic farming.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in a press released said that the aim is to create awareness about cultivating crops organically without the use of pesticides.
It has announced that each of 40 village-level clusters in Salcete and Mormugao, encompass 200 hectares of agriculture land. It further cleared that agricultural land, encompassed in each cluster is with organic certification.
The government is confident that the farmers will be able to fetch better prices for organically certified products. It aims to set up 500 organic clusters in the State.
Reportedly, in April, 2018, the Central government had granted 50 clusters, each with 20,000 hectares and average spending of Rs 11 lakh per cluster. The Centre and State were to share the financial burden on 60:40 basis.
