Govt may re-advertise to fill up commission posts

After sustained pressure from citizens and consumer rights activists over the controversial selection of one of the members to the State Consumer Redressal Commission, the Government is most likely to re-advertise for the two posts crucial to the functioning of the Commission from May 1 onwards.
Minister for Civil Supplies Jose Philip D’Souza said he had received several letters regarding the recommendation of the 65-year old retired government servant from Goa Civil Service by the Selection panel of the Commission. I have forwarded the letters to the Chief Secretary and it is most likely the selection will be cancelled and fresh advertisements will be issued for fresh interviews, he mentioned.
Official sources revealed a file that has gone from Jose Philip’s office to the Chief Secretary states the recommendation of the Selection panel of the Commission was not acceptable to the Government and the same stands cancelled. A top official said the file with the noting has now gone to the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat for his final verdict in the matter.
Meanwhile, Adv Dilesh Ashwekar has made a petition to the CM in which 51 people, including citizens, panchas and sarpanchas, have voiced their grievances against the selection of the member, having no legal background, to such an important post.
The petition before the CM has asserted “no” to re-advertisements for the two posts as there were some able candidates who appeared for the earlier interviews. It has called for appointment of members with proper legal background and that too before April 30, 2010, the day the term of the Commission ends.
Sources revealed no cases have been posted for hearing in the Commission for the entire month of May which has never happened in the past.
