PANJIM: A Delhi-based tourist was found murdered in a hotel room early Monday morning. Police suspect the role of four persons, who had checked into the hotel with the victim over the weekend.
Police have laid hands on evidence in the form of CCTV footage that shows the 60-year-old was accompanied by four young boys at the reception counter.
Quoting the complaint copy, Panjim police said that Virendra Kumar was found in a pool of blood while the unknown men were absconding. Sapna Hotel, situated in the heart of the city belongs to BJP’s former CCP Corporator Suresh Chopdekar.
“We are going through all the records available at the hotel to ascertain the identity of the unidentified persons besides which our team collected forensic evidence from the crime spot for examination,” PI Siddhant Shirodkar said. The tourist was attacked with a broken liquor bottle, however, this is missing from the crime spot.
Police have circulated snapshots to all police stations, bus stands, railway stations, and border check posts in search of the accused men.
Since the hotel manager failed to take identity details of the visitors, police concede tracing the accused could take time. “We have submitted a report to the Collector against the hotel manager for violation of the Collector’s order,” an officer said.
