VASCO: Upset with Power Minister and Mormugao MLA Milind Naik’s statement on ‘rehabilitating’ only 20-odd workers from his constituency, Western India Shipyard Limited (WISL) workers have now decided to put forth their grievances before the MLAs, ministers and MPs seeking their support in resolving their salary issue.
On Monday, a delegation of 50 WISL workers met Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida in his office and briefed him on the hardships faced by them due to non-payment of salaries since several months. They informed that if the state government fails to come to their rescue, then they along with their families would soon be starving to death, as they have no money to pay their children’s school fees.
They requested Almeida to support them in taking up their issue before the state government for an early solution.
Further, the workers told Almeida that they are upset with the Power Minister and Mormugao MLA Milind Naik’s statement that he would try to rehabilitate only 20-odd workers who have been staying in his constituency.
After giving them a patient hearing, Almeida assured them that he would soon seek an appointment with Chief Minister Parsekar and would request him to help the agitating workers on humanitarian grounds.
“Today, the workers came to me with their grievances. Many of them are staying in Vasco constituency, however, on humanitarian grounds, I feel that we need to help them and therefore I have assured them that I would soon present their case before the Chief Minister and would request him to help them in best possible way,” Almeida told Herald.
