Following a Herald report on Wednesday regarding locals blocking the dilapidated 3-km road with wooden logs and laterite stones, the PWD soon began to transport material required for the road repair works from Wednesday afternoon.
“The work to repair the road finally began on Thursday. Residents had blamed authorities for ignoring the dilapidated road and forcing them to suffer in the process,” said a local.
It may be recalled that agitated residents had blocked the road on the night of January 26 to obstruct an anticipated visit by a minister the next morning to inaugurate a newly built water tank.
Residents of Ghatwar-Karvem, an internal locality in Gaondongrim housing over 40 families, had complained that while the main Gaondongrim road had often received fresh coats of hot mix, a stretch of about 3 kms of the road leading to their locality had been neglected even though the work had been tendered long back.
A source at the PWD office later dismissed rumours that a minister was to inaugurate the water tank on Tuesday.
