VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council building renovation work commenced, on Friday.

MMC Chief Officer Sandhya Kamat informed Herald that the renovation work will continue in phase wise wherein the first floor will be taken up first. Deputy Collector’s Office, Mamlatdar’s Office etc will be taken up for renovation after municipal elections process is completed.
She said that the renovation work of the municipality building is on the cards since last two years. The renovation work will happen in phase wise.
Sandhya said, “In first phase the municipal school and the first floor will be renovated. The school premises have been vacated. Most the objects and other office furniture have been shifted to the space available at the ground floor two days back.”
When asked whether they have found any alternate space to shift the MMC office and other offices, Sandhya said that they have checked two-three such premises which they might hire for rent. But the rent is costly and considering the financial crises in the municipality, decision will have to be taken in this matter.
She also said that the offices of Mamlatdar, Deputy Collector and others which are on the ground floor will be vacated after the municipal election process is completed.
Meanwhile, when inquired about the status of the outstanding dues recovery of the municipality, she informed that satisfactory recovery of the outstanding dues has happened. Some issues are in the court.
