PANJIM: St Savio Sports Club, Calangute registered a solitary goal victory over St Anthony Sports Club, Marna-Siolim in the final of 42nd Bandodkar memorial football tournament, organized by Baina Sports Club, at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Sunday.
The teams did not score in the first half. However in the second half both the teams played a fast game with short passes and in the fag end of the match, Pedro Gonsalves scored a crisp goal from a pass by Colin Sieiro of St Savio.
St Savio were richer by Rs 50,000 and a rolling shield of late DB Bandodkar and a rolling trophy of Babush Machado.
The runner-up, St Anthony had to be content with Rs 40,000 and a rolling trophy of late Teo Carvalho.
Individual prizes were awarded to highest scoring team of the tournament Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, highest scoring player Klinnsman Pereira of Betalbatim Sporting Club, best goalkeeper of the tournament Pedro Cardozo of St Savio Sports Club, Calangute, best disciplined team of the tournament Panchawadi United Club, upcoming player of the tournament Kingsley Fernandes of Betalbatim Sports Club. They all received Rs 5,000 each.
The semi-final losers, Rossman Cruz Sports Club, Nagoa-Verna and Betalbatim Sporting Club received Rs 10,000 each.
The dignitaries present were Nana Bandekar, Jyoti L Bandekar and Power Minister Milind Naik, Baina SC President Rajan Bhosle,T T Sridharan, Riyaz Khadri, Shivdas Naik and other dignitaries.
Earlier the players of both the teams were introduced to the dignitaries. Andrew Rodrigues welcomed. Joe Sequeira compered while the vote of thanks was given by Christine Coelho.
