CANACONA: The Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration has confirmed that the chemical found in possession of a fruit merchant at the Saturday market in Canacona, which was allegedly used to artificially ripen the mangoes as calcium carbide.
Canacona police station sources informed that they have received a copy of the test result of the powder, which was allegedly used by a mango merchant at Saturday market in Canacona to ripen raw mangoes and the FDA test confirmed it to be calcium carbide. Police sources informed that they will study the FDA report and take suitable action against the accused Suresh Fakirappa Upin.
