Herald’s front-page headlines recently Roared in RED (enraged? or was Goa’s heart bleeding -and in its death -throes?) in its reportage of a certain party president’s distress call that its future MLAs were getting “poaching offers”. This voter, that president, this or that any party is NOT alone in his /her/its poignant allegation- or should I call it a battle-cry for action? Every one of us Goa-mogis is silently and fearfully holding its breath as our media daily vomits news pertaining to this sinister, looming likelihood in the face of the challenge of a hung Assembly.
To pre-empt and checkmate this or more devious evil pre-or-post March 10 strategies, I would like to suggest the formation of a Special Task Force to think of and literally ‘unearth’ the possibilities of measures to deal with any betrayers who try to foil the vote and will of Goan democracy. Let us citizens do what our sick laws, lawmakers and loopholes cannot! Our Legislative and Judiciary have been rendered toothless by the profane, profligate and promiscuous powers- that- be. We, OF the people BY the people and FOR the people need OUR turn now.
There was a video of erring politicians somewhere in Europe being physically carried and thrown into big dumpsters of rotten, stinking public garbage. Let such videos be retrieved by those who still have them and be made viral to all society and especially to every political candidate. Several candidates who may have ‘bought’ our vote for pennies are now in their hey-day, perhaps thinking of selling us and our pennies out at unimaginable, astounding, prodigious profit (more grief only to the self- righteous, while those with no conscience will reap what they sow all too soon, taking the rest of us with them, willy-nilly.) I recall an elected candidate in Curtorim who faced public ire this way: the locals entered his house and threw his furniture into the well! Total, raw public humiliation and an angry stigma upon them for generations will be one such master stroke.
While I would like to advocate much more stringent measures to rid ourselves permanently of this disgusting malaise, I realise the law must be followed and that violence has no place in the Goan ethos.
Surely a group of right- thinking, public-spirited firebrands, lawyers and citizens who have felt as betrayed as I do that our 1917 mandate was stolen, exist in every constituency! It is time for such niz-Goenkars to get together immediately (it’s 13 days to March 10 ) to figure out every possible poaching equation of every possible winning candidate and to build its own secret(?), ready- for- action coterie and plan at the slightest whiff of any mischief in the making. The deceitful enemy cannot be underestimated. (Think Meghalaya, Tripura, Karnataka, MP, etc)
Several trusted public figures, political analysts and clergymen have been outspoken and they definitely could be consulted on the finer points and the all-Goa possible equation.
If our vote is disrespected, surely our disrespectors must most certainly be taught the most bitter lesson of their life. (Their loved ones too- for not trying to deter them.)
Let’s network “NOW !!”. (We have dynamic, creative Goans everywhere- and Unity is the Way)
Woe is me!
Sorrowing lies my land…
