MARGAO: Hailing from a well-to-do family, this minor boy of 15 years ran away from his home at Udupi-Karnataka on Tuesday, with plans to take up odd jobs for his survival.
But his plans went haywire as he landed straight in the hands of the Konkan Railway Police ~ thanks to alert motorcycle pilots plying from the railway station premises.
No sooner the boy studying in SSC landed at the railway station at around 8 pm, he inquired with the motorcycle pilots waiting outside the station premises whether they could find him a job for him in a hotel to eke out a living. Suspecting something fishy, the motorcycle pilots Ahmed Shariff, Irfan Mullha and Kaheja Shariff intimated the matter to the Konkan Railway Police sub-inspector, Dattaguru Sawant, who later found out that the boy had run way from home.
“During preliminary inquiry, I found out that the boy had run away from home as he could not cope up with his studies. Based on the telephone number in the possession of the minor, I contacted the boy’s mother, who said that her son has run away from home,” PSI Sawant said.
While the son will be reunited with his mother later tonight as she is expected to reach Margao, the police has called child rights activist Auda Viegas to the railway station since the boy is kept at the station guest room.
PSI Sawant has thanked the three motorcycle pilots for their presence of mind and has decided to recommend the trio for reward for their commendable job. “If not for the alert motorcycle pilots, the boy could have landed in big time trouble,” he said.
