The entire world is eagerly awaiting the New Year with hope, peace and ample aspirations. Just like life, the New Year is a gift of God. We were not sure if we would witness the dawn of the New Year. We are alive today not because of our wish or plan. It is because of the will of God. It is God who has the full authority over our life. So let us feel happy and grateful to God that we are alive today. God has given us one more year to prove our usefulness and virtues.
The end of a calendar year often makes us reflect on the ‘old’ that we leave behind and the ‘new’ that we hope for. When most of the economic, social and political problems that Goa and whole world faced in 2020 due to dreaded corona virus COVID-19 and, or even over the last few years, remain firmly in place, it makes little sense to hope for a better 2021.
The pandemic of course, gives us reasons to be even more pessimistic. No doubt, we really do not know how 2021 will unfold ! Let us pray to God fervently and hope for the best in the New Year 2021. So here we welcome the New Year 2021 with religious perspective.
God nourishes his hope that we will bear fruit, inspite of our drawbacks, shortcomings and adverse circumstances. Let us make the New Year great one so that we may lead lives worthy of the God, fully pleasing to him as we bear fruit in every good work and as we grow in the knowledge of God.
COVID-19 virus pandemic destroyed the life of human beings. Many of our loved ones, relatives, friends, or acquaintances are no more with us as they have been called away through the deadly corona virus pandemic and some declared as comorbid deaths. They too, had wanted to be there for the dawn of the New Year. But their wish was not fulfilled.
Fortunately, there are some people who are alive today although they had thought they would not survive 2020. Now as we enter a new way of life, we have to make new resolutions. It’s time for a fresh start. The freshness of the New Year should last the entire life time. It has been revealed that “the one who endures to the end will be saved”(Mt 10:22).
Let us pray, the New Year bring us a new awakening for a successful, contented and peaceful life. Let us also pray God to wipe out completely the Covid-19 virus. The world is also facing an unexpected threat with at least two new strains of Coronavirus that spread faster than the one we are still fighting. Therefore, let the renewed lease of our life enable us to reach our goal.
I wish all of you a Happy and Prosperous New Year 2021.
