PONDA: Having virtually lost hope of survival after her building at Pampur-Kashmir was surrounded by the floods, the girl from Nagamasjid-Ponda who went missing in the devastating Kashmir floods, managed to escape to safety at the very last moment. She finally established contact with her family on Friday.
Rozana Choudari (17), a Std 12 student from Naga Mashid, Ponda, and general secretary at GVM Higher Secondary School at Ponda, had been reported missing in the devastating floods in Jammu & Kashmir, after numerous attempts by family members to contact her had failed.
On Friday, Rozana managed to contact her mother by using the phone of a Kashmiri woman, after her phone battery went dead. She told her mother that she had virtually lost hope of survival as the floods had surrounded her building.
She managed to escape from the building, which was later destroyed in the floods.
“She is now in an open area and is awaiting help from the government, so that she can reach the city area at Barbasha and from there will proceed to the airport on her return journey to Goa,” said Rozana’s mother.“She got some biscuits to eat, but was feeling unwell due to the change in weather,” she added
Rozana’s sister told Herald that Rozana is expected to return from Kashmir on September 15.
Family members thanked the media for highlighting her story, prompting South Goa MP Narendra Savoikar and Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar to assure them all assistance in locating Rozanna.
