Petroleum firms pay rent arrears to MMC

After Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum on Friday deposited a cheque of Rs 11.99 lakh with the Margao Civic body as rent arrears.
Both Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum owed to the Civic body rent dues amounting to Rs 34 lakh upto October 31, 2009.
The MMC has so far succeeded in recovering arrears to the tune of Rs 22.53 lakhs from both the petroleum companies.
MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho told newsmen that the civic body would not rest till the balance arrears is cleared by the two companies. “The arrears had mounted to Rs 34 lakh over the years as the petroleum companies nor the Civic body took the initiative to recover the dues,” he said and vowed to recover the balance amount from the companies.
