PANAJI: Women have a place of high respect in our culture.
She is the symbol of power said the Minister for Water Resources (WRD) Shri
Vinod Palyenkar. He was speaking as the Chief Guest at the inaugural function
of a ‘Consumer Rights Awareness’ workshop organized to enlighten women
regarding their rights as consumers. This workshop was organized by Goa
Panchayat Mahila Shakti Abhiyan at Secretariat, Porvorim, today.
The Minister said that the Government through its various
programmes and schemes is striving to empower women. Women do not lag behind in
any field when compared to men. Women excel in every field. He lauded the work
done by Mahila Shakti Abhiyan towards woman empowerment and education.
The President of Goa Panchayat Mahila Shakti Abhiyan, Smt.
Nelly Rodrigues explained the purpose of the workshop and appealed to
participants to acquire knowledge to strengthen themselves.
She said through Abhiyan, efforts are being made to organize
workshops, health camps, training courses for women with the intention to make
them become self employed and self reliant.
The Convener of GOACAN, Shri Roland Martins who was the key
note speaker for the workshop in his address enlightened the participants about
their rights and duties as consumers. He also informed that the Government has
implemented various laws to safeguard the interests of consumers.
