CANACONA: It may seem unusual, but residents from a part of Agonda village have had to depend on rainwater harvesting as PWD water has failed to reach their homes over the last several days.
Residents of Dessaiwada in Agonda have been struggling to get proper water supply for the last several days and have been forced to get in touch with the indifferent PWD valve operators.
“There is no supervision on the erratic functioning of the valve operators posted at Agonda and to make matters worse, local PWD officers have failed to respond to our pleas to ensure regular water supply to our area,” complained Dessaiwada Panch Sapnesh Dessai.
“We cannot understand why we are being made to suffer this way for want of water even during the monsoon period. The little water that we get is low in pressure and for a very short duration. Why can’t the PWD ensure proper water supply when there is more than enough availability of treated water,” asked Dessai.
Incidentally, two of the three water storage tanks in the village get their supply from the Chapoli dam, while the third tank gets water from the Mudkud river.
Sources informed Herald that the pumping of water from the Mudkud river has been stalled for several weeks now, after the pump has reportedly gone faulty.
