CAVELOSSIM: Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) officials on Tuesday conducted a joint site inspection along with the members of the Chinchinim Primary Health Centre (PHC) and Cavelossim village panchayat of the khazan lands in the Cavelossim village.

Although the GSPCB had directed the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) to either attend or depute their representatives for this joint site inspection, the GCZMA officials failed to remain present for the second consecutive time, informed the complainant Oswald Fernandes.
The GSPCB officials were acting upon a June 25, 2020 complaint made by a Muxivaddo-Curtorim resident Oswald of destruction of the environment by discharging sewage directly in the River Sal by the restaurant-cum-banquet hall named ‘Pearls Marina de Santa Cruz’ that has been allegedly built illegally in the low lying paddy fields.
A two-member GSPCB team comprising of the Engineering Assistant Liston Fernandes and Junior Laboratory Assistant Anthony Miranda conducted this joint site inspection of Survey Nos 3/1-A, 150/6, 7, 8, 9 in Cavelossim on Tuesday morning.
“During this joint site inspection held today, it was discovered that there were two tanks kept open. One tank containing some oily substance and the other tank for treatment, I was informed by the GSPCB officials as I was not allowed to enter the premises. This was in Survey no 150/6 where the unit ‘Pearls Marina de Santa Cruz’ built in a low lying paddy field. Also, the septic tank is built in a low lying paddy field in Survey no 150/8. Now, there was a Survey no 3/1-A on the adjacent side of the road which comes under the NDZ (No Development Zone) wherein the soak pit is found open and we have photographic evidence of the soak pit and septic tank,” said Oswald.
Despite several attempts made to contact the GSPCB officials, they were unavailable for comment.
