MARGAO: The families, whose houses built on comunidade land at Pedamol-Shirvoi, Quepem, were demolished on Tuesday, have blamed the Comunidade Attorney Subodh Shirvoikar and one Vinod for their predicament.
The affected families said that Subodh and Vinod ‘sold’ them the land without executing any ‘deed’; and, whenever the families asked them for security of the money that they paid to them, the duo would say that they would manage to regularise their houses.
When sought for his response to the allegation that he along with one Viond allegedly ‘sold’ comunidade land to the affected families, Subodh said it was he and his comunidade who had filed the complaint against these illegalities at the Pedamol land. He also said that people were making false allegations against him out of desperation.
On the fate of the remaining 126 houses, he said, “It is up to the government to decide about the demolition of the remaining 126 houses.”
Meanwhile, Celestin Noronha, a member of South Goa Comunidades forum has called for holding Attorney Subodh and the entire managing committee of Shirvoi comunidade responsible for the illegalities at Pedamol.
Noronha said, “The Comunidade needs to explain what it means by ‘first demolition of houses without water and electricity connection’. As far as the case is concerned once the administrator has ruled after hearing the cases, it is not required to spare anyone grabbing the land there.”
Noronha demanded that all the 126 illegal houses at Pedamol be demolished without exception to set an example against any such attempts of grabbing community land anywhere in Goa.
