PANJIM: Crime Branch investigating the abetment to suicide case against Police Sub Inspector Gautam Shetkar has not found any evidence of abetment, and is hoping for leads from the locked cell phone of the deceased lady police constable (LPC).
A senior officer of Crime Branch said the phone of the deceased LPC will be sent to Hyderabad to extract its data. The officer said that the high end cell phone is locked and it is not possible to unlock it to extract the data.
The officer said that the PSI deposed before the agency and cooperated with the investigation and admitted he was friendly with the deceased constable.
“Right now we haven’t found anything to say there was any kind of abetment to the suicide. The only hope is that the cell phone of the deceased, which we will send to Hyderabad to be unlocked,” an officer said.
Shetkar had come under the police scanner after the parents of the deceased constable filed a complaint of abetment to suicide earlier this month.
The PSI and the new constable had reportedly been in regular contact with each other but both had mutually called off their friendship.
The lady constable died four days after her attempted suicide. She was undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College at the time of her death. Verna police had launched a probe, but the case was later transferred to Crime Branch for a speedy probe.
