Navelim played their hearts out to register a 5-4 tie-breaker win over Maina Sports Club. The teams were locked goalless at the end of regulation period.
Navelim as well as Maina went into the attack and spurned scoring opportunities in the opening session.
The second half continued in the same vein where both teams adopted safety, as a result there were a few attempts at either goalposts and play was restricted to midfield. Both team defenders were tall in keeping their citadel intact till full time.
In the tie-breaker, Tyson Pereira, Milton Gomes, S. Cardozo, Mariano Mascarenhas and Remy Pereira were on target for Navelim while Bruno Fernandes, Roque Carneiro, Primo Fernandes and Peter Pereira converted for Maina.
In the second pre quarter-finals, Pax of Nagoa downed Sporting Club of Davorlim 2-1. There was no score at half time.
Nagoa broke the deadlock in the 10th minute when Mariano Cruz headed home off a flag kick taken by Valanko.
Five minutes later, Nagoa doubled the lead when Steven Pereira unleashed a snap shot off a cross from Mariano Mascarenhas.
Stunned by double blows, Davorlim regrouped quickly and instantly took the fight to the rival camp and their efforts bore fruits when Bonnie Niasso reduced the margin.
